Grippy Sticky GoGo: Making your own tire chains for wintertime riding

This is round two of the Grippy Sticky Series! Get after it this winter on your mountain bike by building your own set of tire chains. Cost is around $15 and a little bit of your Saturday ride time, but the first icy turn you corner around in December, you'll be patting yourself on the back for making these.

Are those chains being held together by zip ties?  I am having trouble noticing from the picture.

Ahh, thanks for that C&H ... I'll think of it everytime I see my neighbor pulling out of his driveway on his bike in January, when it's 15 below, with a foot of snow on the ground.
