Already a preferred way of traveling to all points off-road, Jeep can now help you stay out there as well. The company, in cooperation with Chrysler's accessory arm Mopar, announced today that they'll be offering Jeep-branded, off-road camping trailers. The trailers are designed for up to four people and feature a queen-size bed, sofa with stowaway table and a 110 V power supply.
The campers are styled after the Jeep Wrangler and have been purpose-built for off-road performance, featuring 12 to 15 inches of ground clearance and 17-inch Jeep Wrangler Rubicon wheels wrapped up in BF Goodrich Mud Terrain tires.
The trailers will come in two models: the $9,995 Trail Edition, for more casual campers, and the $11,995 Extreme Trail Edition, for more heavy-duty off-road use. The latter features off-road suspension, a stronger frame, 35-inch tires and a full protective skid plate underneath. They'll hit the market at Jeep dealers next month--just in time for the end of summer camping season(?).
I'm surprised this didn't happen earlier. Jeep has an untouchable name when it comes to serious off-road vehicles so an off-road camper seems like a natural extension. I can see them selling a lot of these babies.
