Remote Controlled Tent Lighting and USB Power

created at: 07/19/2010

Outdoor Retailer is coming up in a couple of weeks, and in anticipation of taking a few days off regular work to go ogle new gear, I've been spending some time seeing what's new in the outdoor world in Europe. Europe's Outdoor Retailer--the OutDoor Show, which takes place annually in Germany wrapped up two weeks ago. So if you're seeing a lot of cool/random gear that you can't find in your local REI, it may be because it's Euro-market only.

One of my favorite OutDoor products is the new C-Light 2.0 RC from Microsport. The light looks like it can double as a flashlight and remote controlled tent light. So if you need to light your tent up from a distance-say to verify that it really is a grizzly cub polishing off the leftover campfire fajitas you left in your tent, you can flip the LED on from a safe distance and then run like the wind all the way to the ranger station. The light runs on USB-rechargeable li-ion batteries worth about 8 hours of run time.

The C-Light 2.0 RC isn't up on Microsport's site yet, but the original C-Light is also pretty sweet. It doesn't have a remote control, but includes a power source to charge up MP3 players, tent fans and other USB-based devices.
