I'm sensing a burgeoning new category of bike pedals. Just two months ago, Mavic introduced its magnetic pedal system, and here's a similar system from a smaller company. ProTon Magnetic Pedal Locks increase safety and stability when riding by keeping the foot magnetically planted on the pedal. Unlike clipless systems, the shoes can easily disconnect and let the rider loose during a fall or sudden stop. ProTon's system comes in three sizes and includes two magnetic pedals and two shoe adapters designed to work with most cycling shoes. Prices start at $145.

I'm pretty psyched to try magnetic pedals out and hopefully I can get my hands on some for testing to see how well they split the difference between platform and clipless. via The Gear Caster
