How to Use an Ice Chest

Like, duh, right? But there REALLY IS a right way to use an ice chest to ensure it will keep your stuff colder, longer. Roy at Camping Blogger lays it out like this:

  1. Never use crushed ice; instead make your own ice blocks with empty milk jugs.
  2. Pre-cool your ice chest to 40 with ice OTHER than that which you'll be using on your camping trip.
  3. Pre-cool your food; if you're camping trip will be longer than 3 days, consider freezing food that you won't be using right away.
