Well I am a psychiatrist, and according to most accounts he displayed many of the signs of either schizophrenia or bipolar disorder. While I hate to throw out a dignosis while not having met the patient it is equally as ignorant to assume that some third party author, who by glamorizing a sad tragedy raked in quite a bit of dough, could know what his true intentions were. If McCandless was such an idealic hero, then Krakauer should run off and endure the same fate. Instead he most likely sits in a mansion in Aspen with his family and kids, laughing all the was to the bank.
Please people don't be fooled by authors and filmakers...This kid needed help.
yes he was fricken crazy.
that is completely wrong. both the book and movie explained his story. he was is no way schizophrenic. just because he wanted to excape society and live an adventures life doesnt mean he has a disease. he is perfectly normal and lived a better life then you ever will
First, Medred is an opinion columnist, not a psychologist. Second, Chris's actions might sound just plain stupid to some (probably most) but that doesn't mean he was schizophrenic. And third, Medred's article directs a lot of anger toward Krakauer, which makes me wonder if he's not a little jealous that he didn't think to write the book first.
