Among the vast display of outdoor goodies at the Outdoor Retailer this year was a new company called IndoSole, which features sandals that are handmade in Bali using recycled motorcycle tires for the outsoles. Unlike many recycled products, IndoSole sandals don't feel a need to disguise their humble origins-the tread is right there on the bottom for everyone to see, and they look pretty sweet.
I've got a pair that I'm working through the ringer right now, and so far I'm a huge fan. I'll let you know how they work after (quite) a few more miles. In the meantime, here's a video from IndoSole's website showing the creation process.
The sandals go for $45 every two pairs saves one tire from a Balinese landfill. Check out the website at IndoSole.com.
