Next week, I'm heading down to Bishop, California to test some gear. I'll be backpacking and doing some trail running, but most of my time will be spent bouldering on the outstanding rock that the area's known for. Here's a pic from last year's trip.
There are so many excellent climbing areas that it's going to take a bit of planning to get a taste of each one. Last year I spent the majority of my time in the Buttermilks, so this year I'm hoping to expand my horizons a bit, hitting up the Happy/Sad Boulders, spending some more time at Druid Stones, and spending a day or two at Pocketopia.
To help me out, I picked up Bishop Bouldering, by Wills Young. This is an outstanding guide to all things Bishop, from directions to amenities to an all-inclusive list of boulders, routes and grades. It even comes with a handy checklist so you can tick off routes that you've climbed.
When I get back it'll be with a slew of reviews...hopefully I'll have a slew of checkmarks, too.
