Over the summer I was introduced to the craze in outdoor sports known as paddle boarding. The sport, largely associated with oceanic applications, is becoming more and more popular on inland bodies of water like lakes and rivers (or at least that's what company reps told me). While I found this surprising, the fact that the trend has moved even further inland--onto land itself--is even more surprising. A means of winter training (or commuting to class), land paddling uses a roller stick in conjunction with a longboard to simulate paddle boarding in a dryer application. This is the Big Stick available from Kahuna Creations. It's also a great way to work the upper body often neglected by other outdoor/commuter sports. I'm looking forward to getting some more information about the sport at the Outdoor Retailer, but this was cool enough to warrant a quick post.
