My Details

About Me

I've been in love with the outdoors for nearly 20 years.  Specifically, I have been mountain biking and snowboarding since '94.  Unfortunately, I grew up in NJ where the outdoors consisted mostly of the woods behind my house or down the road.  A few years ago, I finally pursued my dream and moved out to the Rockies.  I've bounced around CO and UT and never looked back--the opportunity for outdoor sports and incredible mountain scenery has definitely grounded me.

In addition to the aforementioned sports, I'm always looking for new thrills and hope to try snowkiting, extended backpacking treks and whitewater kayaking sometime soon.  One day maybe I'll be independently wealthy and have the time and money necessary to get into all the sweet sports out there.  Until then, I'll keep planning day trips and getting out there whenever possible.

Having a venue to write about it regularly is pretty sweet too.

Anti-Energy Drinks: Just Another Way to Throw Away Money

I'll admit that I partake in an energy drink here or there. Even though it's a nasty-tasting, overpriced can of caffeine, once in a while the boost is worth it--especially when a cup of coffee would eat away at my stomach lining and make me have to drop trou in the middle of the forest. A new emerging trend is the "anti-energy" drink, a small bottle of elixir that calms you down and gets you ready for...

New, Slimmer GPS-Based Outdoor Rescue Beacons

Rescue beacons like the SPOT Messenger and ACR personal locator beacons (PLBs) offer outdoor lovers an invaluable safety tool. If ever you find yourself in a life-threatening situation, rescue is just a simple click of a button away. While the devices use different infrastructures, their aim is the same: transmit your location via satellite to a team of rescue personnel who can come give you the assistance you desperately need. While these type of devices might...

Deb, good to hear from you and glad your snowshoes are coming along. I definitely liked the idea and would love to give them a try. Please drop me an email at chris@uncooped.com and we can set it up.

Chris - you wrote a nice blog about my Collapsible Snowshoes after last year's OR Winter Market. I have refined the design and have a short run under production. I'd like to send you a pair to try if you are interested and might consider writing about them again. They should be available in early January. Please let me know if/where I can send you a pair. I am very grateful for your blog and support!
